An Unshakable Belief

As a child, I remember hearing stories about people who had that absolute faith that things would go their way. I heard one time about a preacher who had a faith beyond measure. Yes, I am talking about a preacher, but I am still not talking about religion.

The preacher had told his friends that he was going on a trip the following Friday. But, his friends also knew that he really did not have the money for such a trip, and they said as much to the preacher.

The preacher told them that the money he needed for his trip would be provided to him. Penniless and faithful, this man had a real faith, even an unbreakable certainty that his trip would become possible. For him, it was not a matter of "if" he could get the money for his trip; it was a matter of "he will have the money" in time for his trip.

On Thursday, the day before his scheduled trip, one of his friends asked him if he had gotten the money for his trip yet. The preacher dutifully said no, but assured his friend that he would have the money in time for his trip.

Sure enough, Friday morning came, and his friend produced enough money to ensure that the preacher's trip would go off without a hitch.

Cheating You Say?

The preacher's faith paid off for him and his planned trip. Sure, in this case the preacher's friend came through to reward the preacher's faith. And one might try to argue that it was not an act of "reliable" faith that produced that result.

But as I look around at people I know, I see the principle of faith at work in their lives.

Frequently I hear people tell me, "Clinton, this month we will see a 20% increase in sales." And then it comes to pass.

1. Unclear Layout and Navigation. Many websites, especially business sites, seem to suffer from some kind of disease where even the very simplest task takes ten steps to achieve. If people are emailing you to ask you how to do things on your site, then you need to improve your layout and navigation. Remember: if there are certain tasks people seem to want to do more often, put them on the front page.

2. Plugin Overload. You've got to keep media that uses plugins to a strict maximum of one per page: that means that if you've got Flash, then you can't have a media player, or if you're using Java then you can't have Flash. It's not as bad to use the same plugin twice, however.

3. Unclear Linking. You might think it looks better to only show links when people put their mouse over them, or not make their colour stand out too much from the rest of the text, but it's not – while it might make the design look nicer, it makes it far less usable. Use a clearly contrasting colour for links, and preferably underline them.

4. Too Many Ads. When you're trying to make money from your website, it's all too easy to try to fit in more ads than you really should, or start using ad formats that are too intrusive. 9. No Marking for External Links. There are two kinds of links: internal (to other parts of your website) and external (to other websites). If point A is another page on your website, and point B is a page on somebody else's website, where does the spider end up? That's right, you've got it!

When a spider lands on your web page, it does so at the top left of the first column in the first table. It then crawls along from left to right until it reaches the end of the column, then goes to the next column and so on. It then goes to any nested tables, again from left to right and so on. Using that information, you can draw a spider's web using your HTML: spiders are monolingual - they only read HTML, not Java or Flash or any other script.

Using the information above you should be able to work out a path on your website that will lead spiders to where you want them to go. The easier a spider can scuttle round your site the more pleased it will be with it. However, as hinted above, don't lead it off your site: it might just stay there! There are ways to lock certain doors to spiders but that is for Part 2.

Did you do what I do, and think of the best wording you can use in the box to describe what you want and wonder if these were the best words to use?

You probably did, and like me either got what you wanted or had to type in something else. Do you know what? Each of the search terms you used was a 'keyword'. That's right, a keyword can be a phrase as well as a single word. A keyword, in fact, is any term that a Google user enters into the search box hoping to get the information they need. Therefore, when you are adding keywords to your web pages, you are adding words or phrases that you hope others are using to find the information you have on that web page. Remember that Google lists every web page separately.

What this means is that to maximize the traffic to your web pages you have to figure out what keywords Google users will use to find your website. There are tools to help you do that, such as the free Google Keyword Tool and Digital Point Keyword Tool, and the paid for Wordtracker. Check them out and decide what suits you best. Keyword research is a big subject, far too big for this article, but that is a rough idea of what is involved.

I just finished reading an article written by a good friend of mine who coaches companies and their employees to better performance. In this particular article, he was discussing women in business and the different set of attributes they bring into the workplace. And it got me to thinking.

For a long time, women in competitive careers were led to believe (and many times rightly so) that they had to "play a man's game" in order to progress and succeed in business. And though for years, women have been successful in business playing by "man-rules", it's absolutely not necessary, nor good advice for today's success.

What we now know of course, is that men and women may have different perspectives and approaches to business. But either can be successful in the entrepreneurial arena without giving up or giving over their own unique abilities.

Men and women have various attributes in common that are of benefit in the corporate realm, however, women are at their unquestionable best when we use the characteristics and attributes that are unique to us. It also greatly shortens or eliminates any learning curve relative to your business product or service knowledge to free you to concentrate on building the business itself.

In addition to pursuing your passion, another idea to keep in mind is that in the beginning, as you brainstorm ideas for your business development, let the sky be the limit. Use your wildest imagination to explore ideas and options. Don't begin the process of developing your enterprise by making a laundrylist of all of the reasons that you can't do this. Find absolutely as many reasons as possible to demonstrate why you can!

Last, and this is very important, be very selective about listening to the advice of friends and relatives. While they ultimately mean well (at least most of the time), the people around you are used to you and your life as it is. And, they're comfortable with that. Whenever you contemplate change, especially the types of changes brought about through successful business ownership, people can get uncomfortable. And when people are forced out of their comfort zone, they will fight tooth and nail to get back to it. If that means discouraging you in the process, then so be it, too bad for you.

Don't fall prey to the fears and negativity of others. If you can't seem to be around positive and encouraging people, find a new group of people to be around. And, if that's not possible, then be your own best friend. Solitude is much sweeter than failure at the hands of selfish people.

Be encouraged by your history. For hundreds, even thousands of years, women have been successful entrepreneurs. Our unique mindset, viewpoints, attitudes and skills as women have all contributed to our successes in business. Let that be your legacy to a new generation, and bring your own bit of spice and flavor to the business table.

Niche marketing seems all the rage these days, what with the continued phenomenal growth of small business enterprises. I've published several articles on the subject of niche marketing myself. And, as a market sector, niche markets certainly have their place. There will always be portions of any given market that are ignored or rejected by the larger companies, or simply overlooked by other small businesses, making them ripe for the taking by savvy capitalists.

But niche markets are by definition, small markets; subsets of a larger market arena. As such, even though they may prove profitable depending on the niche, they will always have less profit potential than the larger market segment. So why not go after the larger market?

All too often, I think, small business owners get caught in the trap of thinking of themselves as "small" business. Because their origins (the kitchen table, the garage, the basement, someone's storage room) may be extremely humble, many entrepreneurs become captivated by their environment rather than their "vision". And, because they think of themselves as small, owners feel that they can't effectively compete in a crowded market or in a market where they face competitors that greatly outsize them. That's a huge mistake. Many large corporations, and some of the most profitable companies ever created (Yahoo, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, eBay), have had very modest beginnings. So for entrepreneurs to limit their expectations and future business potential based on their present circumstance or position isn't very smart.

Don't be afraid of entering a large marketplace simply because it's large. Large is a good thing. It means that there exists greater opportunities and potential for more players. And while the number and size of competitors will certainly be greater, that's not necessarily a bad thing. More competition means somebody's making money, otherwise no one would bother, so you immediately know that there's more profit potential. And the involvement of bigger companies often makes the stakes higher for them.

Large competitors have more, and often better, resources that are brought into the marketplace, however they're not always as "agile" as a smaller competitor. They're oftentimes unable to respond as quickly to customer interest or market changes. If you don't believe me, just take a look at what has happened in recent years within the automobile industry. The "giants" were too slow to change and adapt themselves to supply what the market demanded. As a result, they have suffered huge losses and endangered or lost their premier rank in the industry's hierarchy. In comparison with large organizations, small companies have their own advantages; less bureaucracy, a faster decision-making track, and ultimately less investment risk. If something doesn't work, it's much easier for a small competitor to make the adjustment or move on to something that does work.

Rather than trying to find a niche market, it may be more beneficial to use your resources to find your market niche. Don't concentrate on the market size, concentrate on your place in the market. Rather than focusing on a narrow market subset that requires highly specialized or customized products and services, consider larger market segments that offer more variety, flexibility and profit potential. Find a market that you're especially interested in or knowledgeable about. When you do, chances are you're not alone. You'll likely find that there are many others in the marketplace that have similar interests to yours and are searching for products or services related to that interest.

Remember, even large companies can't service every customer. Find out where your business can fit in to a larger commercial arena where more opportunity for growth and profits exists. Then find ways to distinguish your business from your competitors. Can your business offer faster service or a better quality product? Can you offer a customer service department where each time the customer calls they're able to talk to the same one or two people rather than being passed around to a different person every time they make contact? Can you provide “perks” that give added value to your products and services that provide your clients with exceptional customer experiences? These are ways in which you can compete against larger and more numerous competitors.

Competing against the multitudes or the giants can have its place. Against such competition, you grow smarter, stronger, better or you don't survive.

My grandfather used to say "I'd rather be a big fish in a little pond, than a small fish in a big pond". A rule of thumb I use for MSN is that the traffic for any keyword I search in digital points tool is divided by approx 3 to 4 to give me an idea of the traffic in MSN.So if my desired keyword had one thousand searches per day according to both Wordtracker and Overture then I can confidently say a number 1 rank in MSN should provide about 300 searches.This doesnt mesn you will get 300 hits ,in fact you may only get about half the searchers hit your site through MSN or any search engines for that matter even if you rank number one.

I have come to learn that making money using pay-per-click advertising through Google Adwords takes more than simple creating an ad and bidding on keywords. I have lost more money than I have made and to be quite honest I have become discouraged. That is where this "Adwords Killer" chapter review comes in. In my distress I came across the Adwords Killer ebook. After reading it I have found new hope and am excited because I have learned more about Google Adwords than I ever thought there was to know. Adwords Killer is composed of 18 sections, review of each section is as follows:

Adwords Killer Section 1 � This section briefly discusses what Google Adwords is and provides information that most Internet marketers already know. However, if you are new to Google Adwords and Internet marketing this information will familiarized you with Adwords and if you require more information there is a link that will take you to a site that will do just that.

Adwords Killer Section 2 � Here we go�this section jumps right in and covers some basic fundamentals that are key to building a successful pay-per-click advertising campaign. There are some very good pieces of information in this chapter even if you have been involved with Internet marketing for some time.

� What is "quality score"?
� 2 approaches to setting up campaigns
� Ad optimization process

Adwords Killer Section 3 � I have been in affiliate marketing just over a year and have struggled with pay-per-click Internet marketing. Like I said earlier that is why I began to research the subject and in turn found this ebook. I like to promote products that I use and are familiar with. This helps me to feel good about the work I am doing and ensures that I am not passing bogus information or scams along to hard working people trying to make a living through some form of online business. Even though I believe in the products I promote and know that they are good products based on solid theory and testing I still didn't get the conversions I was hoping for. Why is this?

This section goes into detail in answering this question and then runs through an example to show you exactly how to change low converting ad campaigns. This section is a very good at teaching individuals how to choose products and programs to promote, ones that will make you money.

Adwords Killer Section 4 � Gives a breakdown of the 3 types of Internet traffic; info seekers, considerers, and buyers. Followed with a brief description of each. The best part of this chapter is that it shows you how to pick your keywords to target each group. No more wasting time and money on info seekers. Great section.

Note: Some of the information towards the end of this section I found a bit confusing, either it was over my head or there was something that was missing that tied things together. However, there is free email support to anyone who buys this book so I can use that to get my questions answered.

Adwords Killer Section 5 � I've always hated writing ad copy because I could never get what I wanted to say in such a small amount of space. Section 5 discusses how to find the right headlines and write effective ad copy that will lead to a high CTR. There are additional methods and tools mentioned that proved very useful which I did not know about which will give me a leg up on my competition.

Adwords Killer Section 6 � This is by far the longest chapter in the book and rightly so. It goes into amazing detail on landing pages and converting clicks to sales. More and more merchants and pay-per-click services aren't allowing affiliates to link directly to the merchant's site. That is where landing pages come in, they stand in the gap and you can even offer bonus gifts on your landing pages to increase conversions.

Adwords Killer Sections 7-8 � I've combined these two sections because they are relatively short and deal with pretty much the same thing, which is bidding, ad placement, and ad grouping. Very good section and could potentially save an advertiser a lot of money if your not already doing it.

Adwords Killer Section 9-10 � These two sections are short but provide a lot of value. They are in an area of emphasis that is a bit surprising because I never would of thought of it but they deal with building a good reputation with Google as well as what to do if you suspect click fraud.

Adwords Killer Sections 11-12 � These sections talk a lot about Google's content network and how to optimize your ads and landing pages aimed at traffic from the content network. There is still speculation about whether or not you should allow Google to show ads in the content network but when done right you can make money.

Adwords Killer Section 13 � This was an interesting section because I have not found any other product that shows these techniques. First off this section discusses tips and techniques for maximizing your campaigns and return on investment but then goes the extra mile by showing you exactly what to do if someone copies your campaign and tries to muscle their way into your market. Great tool to have in your tool box.

Adwords Killer Section 14 � PPL or pay-per-lead is an alternative way to make money online. Instead of earning a commission or revenue from a sale you make money by providing leads. This section outlines general techniques on breaking into this market successfully.

Adwords Killer Section 15 � Very short section, provides information on contacting Google support and the importance of doing so.

Adwords Killer Sections 16-17 � What the heck is the "Google Slap"? I had no idea until reading these sections. If you have been running an ad and all of a sudden your CPC has gone through the roof well that is part of the "Google slap." These sections give a detailed description of the "Google slap" and ways to prevent or remedy the situation whichever the case may be.

Adwords Killer Section 18 � When I thought things were being pretty much wrapped up I was pleasantly surprised when the author provides even more tips and techniques to make money quickly, even if you are on a shoe string budget.

"Adwords Killer" Chapter Review Conclusion

In my honest humble opinion I think that this is one of the best products on the market when tackleing Google Adwords and pay-per-click advertising. The book is well written, informative, and provides information on proven techniques that can help individuals make money online. I must warn you though that this is not a book that promotes laziness. You need to put into practice the techniques and they do take work so if you are looking for the easy way to make money with pay-per-click advertising then Adwords Killer is not for you. This concludes my Adwords Killer chapter review.
